Palicourea, growing in the lower transitional forests above Mera, Pastaza Province. Very little has been studied about this genus, which is part of the same family as coffee and chocolate. The flowers are scentless are pollinated by hummingbirds. Palicouria includes about 200 species, many of which are Ecuadorian natives, and grows throughout South America in montane cloud forests and transitional forests.
