Philodendron from the lower transitional forest above Mera, Pastaza Province. This is a large climber, very similar to Philodendrons I’ve seen in Pichincha and Napo; it has hairy petioles and leaves about 3 feet in diameter. Inflorescences are white to the outside of the spathe, and red to the inside, and the spadix is white.

Anthurium, growing in the Mindo-Nambillo Corridor, Pichincha Province. Beyond its basic genus ID of Anthurium (the collective veins and geniculum bear this out), I am quite clueless as to the identity of this plant. However, I love the rusty colour of the new leaves, as well as their shape. This was either an epiphyte or a hemiepiphyte, growing semi-appressed to the trunk of a Sangre de Drago tree. It hadn’t gotten very far up the trunk, nor did it have very many leaves, so I assume that it was not a very old specimen.
