Chrysothemis pulchella, growing at Yarina, Orellana Province.  It is a small, herbaceous flowering plant that is considered a nuisance weed in the oriente; distantly related to Gloxinia and African Violets.

Tibouchina spp. - Flor de Mayo

Flor de Mayo (Tibouchina spp) growing near Mindo, Pichincha Province.  This is a native plant that is hugely popular in the landscaping trade, for its vibrant flowers and unique leaves.  Despite this, it is a very vigorous grower and free-seeder, and is often considered to be invasive or even noxious.
